Missions:

  • Researching, screening, and extracting biologically active substances from marine organisms for aquaculture, medicine and production;
  • Research and apply marine microbial technology (bacteria, fungi, microalgae...) to create biological products, bio-energy, serving aquatic products, medicine and life;
  • Research and application of tissue-cell technology in aquatic products;
  • Research and application of enzyme and protein technology in aquatic products;
  • Research and application of molecular biology in classification of marine organisms and selection of aquatic species;

Outstanding research and results:

  • Application of molecular hybrid genetic technique (FISH) to quickly and accurately classify some toxic algae species and explore applicability on fish eggs and fry.
  • Research and build a system of classification keys and atlas of toxic algae species of the genus Dinophysis in the waters of Vietnam
  • Study the risk of outbreak and propose solutions to prevent, avoid and minimize the harmful effects of red tide in Hai Phong coastal area.
  • Overall assessment of hazards, finding out the cause of death for cultured clams in Thai Binh waters.
  • Research and experiment on high density marine microalgae (N. occulata) as raw materials for the production of functional foods.
  • Research on production technology of functional foods from Nannochloropsis oculata algae.
  • Research on technology to grow Nanochloropsis oculata microalgae biomass by biological double membrane.
  • Research and develop a technological process to produce dietary supplements rich in fatty acids from marine microalgae Chaetoceros calcitrans and Nannochloropsis oculata to serve the production of aquatic breeds.
  • Completing the production technology of some fresh marine microalgae products for the production of aquatic breeds.
  • Research on propagation of cartilaginous seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) by tissue culture method
  • Completing the production technology of lysine-rich aquaculture feed from pangasius by-products
  • Experimental production of nutritional seasoning powder from hydrolyzed fish and scad;

Consulting/support services:

  • Consulting on the application of biotechnology in marine aquaculture, aqua feed production, treatment of the bottom and water pollution.
  • Consulting to assess and minimize the impact of toxic microalgae and red tide on coastal water bodies, bays and concentrated aquaculture areas.
  • Consulting, transferring seaweed tissue culture techniques;
  • Supplying seed sources, marine microalgae biomass for aquaculture, as raw materials for the production of feed, biological products, pharmaceutical materials and cosmetics.
  • Application of molecular biology in species identification and diagnosis of aquatic diseases;
