Development of a break - through new artificial breeding approach for sea cucumbers using neuropeptides
Sea cucumbers are important species both ecologically and economically throughout much of the world and have become a favorite food in Asian countries since they are a source of many healthy natural products. Some of these are throught to cure certain cancers, increase sexual drive and even delay the aging process if eaten daily. Unfortunately, wild sea cucumbers are being overfished, leading to their rapid decline. Thus, aquaculture breeding has been implemented in some countries to produce high quality juveniles for their growth and eventual harvest to keep up with demand. However, the breeding of sea cucumbers in aquaculture faces enormous challenges, such as lack of genetic information and reproductive dysfunction, whereby they lose the ability to produce offspring. ...

  • Potential development of large-scale commercial seaweed farming at the offshore Islands in Vietnam
Potential development of large-scale commercial seaweed farming at the offshore Islands in Vietnam
Seagrape (Caulerpa lentillifera) and red seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) are commercially important species, which contain many beneficial nutrients including mineral substance, molecules relevant and vitamin. They are known to be useful for human and as the main materials for extracting carrageenan. The Research Institute for Marine Fisheries (RIMF) has implemented a national research project from 2017 – 2019 in Vietnam. In this project, two culture models of seaweeds (cultivating in concrete ponds and in floating cages) were implemented at the offshore Islands in Vietnam, including: Ly Son Island and Phu Quy Island. ...
