Introduction

Fishing Forecast Research Center (FFRC) is an unit belongs to the Research Institute for Marine Fisheries. Its functions is to carry out tasks on science research, technology transfer, application and fishing forecast to serve fishing activities and marine resource  development.

Fishing Forecast Research Center (FFRC) has its own legal recognisation, seal, and is allowed to have the bank accounts at the State Treasury and the Banks that operate in accordance with the law.

The headquarters are located in Hai Phong City, Vietnam.

The operational budget of FFRC is allocated from the State Budget and other sources of income as designated by law.

English name: Fishing Forecast Research Center (hereafter FFRC).

Tasks

1. Develop and submit to the MARD:

a) Strategies, plans, programs and projects on marine exploitation, conservation and development of marine resources in the long-term, every five years, and implementing every year after gaining approval from MARD

b) National standards, national technical regulations, economic and technical norms, processes and procedure, rules and technical guidance’s in the field of fishing technology, conservation and development of marine resources, that fall under the tasks of RIMF and in accordance with the law.

2. To do reseach on:

a) Building the models of fishing ground forecast according to the relationship among “fishing grounds, fisheries biology and environment”

b) Applying remote sensing technology and GIS to fishing forecast

c) Application and development of the models for fishing forecast, marine ecology and marine hydrodynamic models

d) Assessing the impacts of climate changes, sea level rise and fishery oceanography on fishing grounds

đ) Development and storage of fishery oceanographic database

3. Updating information, oceanographic and fisheries data from surveys, investigations, remote sensing stations; providing information on fishing forecast to the Directorate of Fisheries, Research Institute of Marine Fisheries and Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development in all coastal provinces.

4. To develop and provide newsletter for long-term and short-term fishing forecast, to promptly serve fishermen’s fishing at sea through the mass media, that meets the MARD’s management requirements on fishing; be responsible for the quality of forecasting information.

5. To joint ventures and cooperate with domestic enterprises/individuals to provide services, providing information on fishing grounds forecast according to the provisions of the law.

6. To do international cooperation on fishing grounds forecast and fisheries oceanogaphy

7. To participate in professional training, technology transfer related to the field of fishing grounds forecast and fisheries oceanography according to the provisions of the law.

8. To coordinate with relevant department to conduct marine resources surveys in Vietnam.
