Content

General objectives: - Selected Kappaphycus seeds with high yield, high content and quality of carrageenan. - Building up a model of intensive cultivation of Kappaphycus with high efficiency and suitableness for the Central Sea region of Vietnam. Detail objectives: - Selected 1-2 varieties of Kappaphycus alvarezii with high content and quality of carrageenan, and yield in Vietnam: daily growth rate ≥ 3.0%/ day; carrageenan content ≥ 40% purity dry weight, kappa(k)-carrageenan index ≥ 500 g/cm2. - Completing the propagational process of Kappaphycus alvarezii by callus culture technology - Created 5,000 thalli of seaweed with size about ≥ 5 cm, propagated from selected high quality seaweed seeds. - Building up a propagational process of Kappaphycus alvarezii with intermediate sizes (10-15 cm) for mass cultivation. - Building up a model of intensive seaweed fariming for high yield and quality: Scale ≥ 0.5 ha; yield ≥ 40 tons of fresh seaweed/ha/crop in 3-4 months; carrageenan content ≥ 40% purity dry seaweed weight; kappa-carrageenan gel strength ≥ 500 g/cm2. Content: 1. Evaluation of the status of cultivation, exploitation and selection of Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed varieties for high yield and carrageenan quality. 2. Completation on the propagational process of Kappaphycus alvarezii by method of callus culture. 3. Study on a the propagational process of Kappaphycus alvarezii producing medium sizes (10-15 cm) from callus seed for mass cultivation. 4. Building a model of intensive farming of Kappaphycus alvarezii for high yield and quality from tissue seeds in the Central coastal region.
